Criminal & Civil Record Checks

Our Services

Hiring managers and human resources (HR) professionals often need to obtain research on the civil and criminal records of potential employees. However, this process can be daunting. There are more than 100 million criminal cases filed in state courts every year. Add about another 400,000 criminal cases filed at the federal level.

That’s a lot of records to wade through, and those numbers don’t even count civil cases. Fortunately, our criminal and civil record research services can help you save time on doing the checks you need for your employees. Here is a brief breakdown of some of the types of records research Background Experts can do for you:

CRIMINAL RECORDS RESOURCES

  • National Criminal Information Scan (NCIS®) — This service is a jurisdictional search of our databases. The record research it returns is compiled from multiple sources, such as:
    • Court, incarceration and prison/inmate records.
    • Probation, parole and release information.
    • Arrest data, wants and warrants.
    • Other proprietary sources.
  • County Criminal — This type of record research involves checking criminal court records at the county level. It returns information on felonies and misdemeanors. Other results of county criminal record checks may include traffic violations and miscellaneous offenses, such as violations of local ordinances.
  • Statewide Criminal — This type of record research involves checking criminal court records at the county level. It returns information on felonies and misdemeanors. Other results of county criminal record checks may include traffic violations and miscellaneous offenses, such as violations of local ordinances.

  • Federal Criminal – Federal criminal record research involves checking criminal records nationwide at each of the 94 U.S. federal courts, including Guam and Puerto Rico. Results of this type of record research can include violations investigated by federal agencies such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
